Charlotte Wallum in her lengthy obit of William Robinson in Landscape Architecture (Oct 1935) called him "One of the greatest gardeners England ever produced" and the English Flower Garden, "The most comprehensive, the most helpful and suggestive of all [Robinson's] works." She kept at it; calling this title, the "authoritative guide to good gardening, the most complete that has ever been written on the subject." Wallum was in good company in her views of Robinson and this book in particular changed gardening forever with its focus on hardy and native plants. The English Flower Garden would go through 15 editions by the time of Robsinson's death attesting to its iconic place in garden literature. A nice copy of a generally scarce title in its first printing.
